This topic is not totally new to me. I think 2 or 3 years ago I found this list from the EFF (Electronic Frontier Foundation) but then I lost the topic. I recovered it while reading about printed documents being used in a lawsuit as a demonstration on origin finding with imprinted tracking dots, more common know as watermarks. The EFF still features this list of printers which do or do not imprint those tracking stuff.

So if you need to print some really private documents you should get your hands on one of those printers first.

I read this interesting post from the “Hacking At Random” conference. For everybody who has paid the parking slot for his car recently with the mobile phone, this should be interesting. And for those who live in eastern europe and use public transportation…generally seen, it describes an important vulnerability in SMS ticketing systems.

Heute hatte der Deutsche Bundestag das Gesetz zur Bekämpfung von Kinderpornographie im Internet mit Hilfe von Websperren verabschiedet. Ruft der Nutzer eine entsprechende URL auf, so erhält er statt der gewünschten Seite nur eine großes Stopschild.

Abgesehen davon, dass diese Methode technisch absolut wirkungslos ist – denn der DNS kann ohne Probleme verändert werden – ist das Gesetz der Einstieg in die Zensur – eine Methode der sich normalerweise nur Diktaturen bedienen.

Mein Bundestagsabgeordneter, Dr. Gerhard Botz, hat dafür gestimmt. Ich habe ihm über abgeordnetenwatch.de geschrieben :

Sehr geehrter Hr. Dr. Botz,

mit großer Enttäuschung muss ich zur Kenntniss nehmen, dass Sie ebenfalls für den Gesetzesentwurf Internet-Sperren gestimmt haben.

Abgesehen davon, dass die Sperren absolut wirklungslos sind, was auch zahlreiche Gutachten von Experten belegen, die sich im Vergleich zu Politikern auch mit den technischen Hintergründen der Thematik auskennen, so ist dieses Gesetz der Einstieg in eine Zensur des Internets sowie eine Gefährdung für die Demokratie dieses Landes.

Besonders von ihnen als ehemaligen DDR Bürger (der ich auch war) – wo Zensur an der Tagesordnung war – habe ich erwartet, dass sie sich deutlich gegen Methoden stellen, die Diktaturen anwenden.

Jeder der Zeit und Lust hat, sollte dies auch tun – wenn gleich es für den parlamentarischen Weg erstmal zu spät ist. Aber es bleibt der Gang vor das Verfassungsgericht…

ARD – one of Germany´s TV channels under public maintenance broadcasted an interview with Wladimir Putin. Some guys who also saw the russian version of the interview discovered massive censorship.

Thanks to LawBlog for the information.

For a few months the Versicherungskammer Bayern thinks that I´m interested in a private health insurance. So they dropped me some snail mail from time to time. But what a surpise – I´m NOT ! Last november (2007) I was so bored that I wrote them a letter to stop that and I wanted to have an information about my stored personal data (according to german privacy law). Never got a reply.

2 weeks ago I got another mailing from them in my box. So I gave all the stuff to my lawyer and today I got a very surprising answer from him. Besides his exorbitant bill I also found a sheet about my stored personal data. The guy listed there had the same name like me, but a totally different address. At least in Germany. I guess they are spamming more Sebastian Becker´s.

Now my lawyer has to act again…sadly this will increase the bill again I suppose.

Update :

Well – I have to say that I´m surprised about how this ended. A few days later I got a second letter from the CEO with an apology and a correct personal data sheet. After paying my lawyers bill I spend some days thinking if it was worth the 300 EUR. But again – I was surprised when I found 300 EUR back on my bank account a little later. The Versicherungskammer Bayern accepted to take the costs on their side. Great. Thank you. And by the way – not a single mailing from them, since that.
