One of his grand uncles helped to liberate the concentration camp Buchenwald as an american soldier during world war 2 and so he want´s to visit the place.  Though the place is definetly no fun, I guess many people will be there to give him a warm welcome.

Update 2 :

That´s it, he has been here and now he´s gone. The MDR took some great pictures of the AirForce One landing in Erfurt.

And the white rose for all the victims of Buchenwald – may they never be forgotten.

restaurant : IKEA, Erfurt / Germany

Short and simple – the food at IKEA is really cheap and the quality is really bad.

I´ve never been a big fan of this place but from time to time I go there to buy some fresh furniture. I want to be part of the yuppie hype too…

Anyway – I had a classical german Schnitzel with french fries and cream sauce. It was more cold than hot, the Schnitzel reminded me of my morning newspaper and the fries have never seen some salt. At least the sauce was okay, but also not a celebration for my palate. My girlfriend had some organic noodle casserole with tomato and cheese. The whole thing was dry like a desert, I couldn´t find any cheese and it was cold too.

The only good thing was the free refill for the soft drinks. My no-name coke tasted a little bit like a mixture of CoCa Cola (Coke) with some lemon limonade. Ohhh and the 2nd good thing was the price – not even 10 EUR for 2 persons is incredibly cheap.

restaurant : Alt Weimar, Weimar / Germany

Well it´s not one of my best protected secrets and so everyone who knows me or have seen me may already guess it : I like eating ! So from this point of view I decided to write a little bit about interesting places I visited to gain some food.

This is gonna be the first review, more to follow soon.

The Alt Weimar is a higher class restaurant with a small but very interesting menu. Though I didn´t knew most of the items on the menu (or haven´t heard their names either) it was one of the best meals of my life.

The reason for that might be star cook Sten Fischer (http://www.fiese-koeche.de) who did a great job in serving an extraordinary, fresh and free of food additives dish.

Honestly – with 72,70 EUR for 2 persons it was not cheap and above my normal investment in food. But it was absolutely worth it.

My girlfriend did an interview with Sten Fischer about his job for her study and if we are lucky it will be available here soon.

VNC on a Windows XP machine via iPhone

Well I never thought that this might work well, but today I was really impressed by an iPhone application called Mocha VNC. I tried only the Lite Version (because it´s free) and besides missing system keys there´s absolutely nothing to miss.

A fast and easy way to control a box from anywhere.

FtpCube – a graphical (S)FTP Client

The power leechers may remember LeechFTP from the german Jan Debis. A very cool FTP tool with the possibility of multiple server connections and multi-threaded transfers.

Development stopped about 10 (omfg) years ago and sadly some major bugs were never fixed.

After a lengthy search (hmm…this happens too often in the last time. Maybe I need a howto google) 🙂 on the net I found a alternative – though development seems to have stopped too.

The name is FtpCube – it´s Python based and still beta, but works good so far. I´ve contacted the developer – let´s see if there´s a chance for version 1.0

proxycfg & netsh winhttp show proxy

Update:

If you use Windows 7 or above the proxycfg command won´t work. Instead you can you netsh with the following syntax:

C:\netsh winhttp show proxy

Howto find out the proxy configuration, if all IE security options are invisible and disabled ?

Good question and the answer took me 2 hours of search on the net. The answer is so damn simple, that I felt a bit annoyed after I found it:

installing flash player plugin for firefox 3 without administrator rights

  1. Download the XPI archive of the Flash Player Plugin to your hard disk (right click on the download link then “Save link as..”). XPI archives are only ZIP files containing the files used by the plugins.
  2. So you can safely rename the file you just downloaded, called flashplayer-win.xpi, into flashplayer-win.zip (you are changing its extension from .xpi to .zip)
  3. Extract the files in the archive. You can use any program capable of opening .zip files (WinZip, WinRAR or the free and great 7-zip). There are also websites which can uncompress archives: wobzip.org.
  4. Copy the files flashplayer.xpt and NPSWF32.dll to %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Plugins\
    • %APPDATA% is the folder which holds your applications profiles and settings.
    • You can open this folder simply choosing “Start → Run → Type in %APPDATA% → OK”.
    • In case you don’t have a Plugins folder you can create one and place your files there.
  5. Restart Firefox
  6. Enjoy your flash websites!
