{"id":2164,"date":"2015-03-12T07:17:57","date_gmt":"2015-03-12T06:17:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.hyperpac.de\/?p=2164"},"modified":"2015-03-14T03:16:22","modified_gmt":"2015-03-14T02:16:22","slug":"ios-music-player-app-without-itunes-app-advise-idownloads","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hyperpac.de\/?p=2164","title":{"rendered":"iOS Music Player App without iTunes &#8211; app advise: iDownloads+"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Update<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I did a video for my other YouTube Channel where you can see what the app can do:<br \/>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/0Q_qFIdwHyA?feature=player_detailpage\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&#8212;<\/p>\n<p>If you don\u00b4t want to use iTunes for copying and playing music on your iOS device (in my case an iPhone 5) you don\u00b4t have a lot of alternatives. Most of the apps that also work with not jailbroken iOS devices are crap.<\/p>\n<p>For a very long time I used <a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/us\/app\/phone-drive\/id431033044?mt=8\" target=\"_blank\">Phone Drive<\/a>. It\u00b4s a pretty good app, allowing you to copy files via wifi to your device using\u00a0simple webpage uploader or via ftp. Especially the ftp feature is great if you want to copy directories or a lot of music. Sadly the app doesn\u00b4t support UTF-8 unicode which leads to some strange characters and can cause upload problems when using ftp. But the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">BIGGEST FLAW<\/span> was that it frequently stopped music playback when you locked your device. I reported this bug to the developers but a) got no answer and b) it wasn\u00b4t resolved though the app got updated regularly.<\/p>\n<p>So I went on to search for a replacement and the one I found looked pretty crappy too. At least in the beginning.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hyperpac.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/idownloads.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-2166\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hyperpac.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/idownloads.jpg\" alt=\"idownloads\" width=\"115\" height=\"122\" \/><\/a>\u00a0The replacement is called <a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/au\/app\/idownloads-plus-download-manager!\/id429648406?mt=8\" target=\"_blank\">iDownloads+<\/a>\u00a0and was mainly designed for downloading files from webpages to your iOS device. Therefore it features an internal browser with ad-block support and several features helping you download the web easily. But it can also play music and for me the most important part &#8211; you can copy music to your iOS device <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">without<\/span> using iTunes. There a 2 ways to do that: \u00a0first you can use a browser which I really can\u00b4t recommend because you can only upload one file per upload and you can\u00b4t create folders. Second you can use WebDav and I highly recommend that. WebDav is a bit like ftp so it allows you to create, delete, rename and move files &amp; folders, upload several files &amp; folders at once and a lot more. Most operating systems have a build in WebDav support but if you\u00b4re a Windows user like me I recommend to use a third party tool (because the WebDav integration even in Windows 8.1 is crap). I use <a href=\"http:\/\/rei.to\/carotdav_en.html#download\" target=\"_blank\">CarotDAV<\/a>. It\u00b4s free, it\u00b4s small, it can be portable and does the job. Sadly the WebDav feature isn\u00b4t available in the free version.
